The UAE introduced two new types of visas, Green Visa and Freelance Visa at a press conference last Sunday, 5th September 2021 along with the announcement of The Principles of the 50, as part of the Projects of the 50 campaign, charting the roadmap for the new age of economic, social and political growth of the UAE.

Green Visa allows the resident to sponsor their parents and children until the age of 25 and can have 90 – 180 days of grace period once expired.

Dr Thani Al Zeyoudi, the Minister of State for Foreign Trade announced that the green visa will not be connected to work permits from companies and is for highly-skilled people, top achiever students, investors and entrepreneurs.

The other category announced is called a Freelance Visa which will be granted to self-employed individuals and owners of independent businesses.

“In Green visas, the person is going to be self-dependent and he is not going to be attached to companies and he can sponsor parents and children up to 25 years instead of 18 years,” Dr Al Zeyoudi said.

“Freelancers will have special dedicated visas…This is to attract experts, retirees and specialised people to niche sectors,” he added.
